Up until last weeks game the results were coming and parts of the media were talking us up as a dark horse for the league, or a top 4 finish. On the other hand there were our critics saying we hadn't had a real test; maybe the Bournemouth defeat was our 1st real test but surely it's one we take inspiration from. Harry Arter & co were industrious; hungry for the ball and tidy on it - pretty basic stuff but as blues we know our football and these are characteristics we admire. Our Ronny summed things up well after the game so let's leave it that.. Crystal Palace come to L4 tomorrow, fans will have the Friday feeling and the old lady will be rocking. Scott Dann will be a loss in the Eagle's defence so we want Bo14sie to exploit this, terrorise his former team mates and get the crosses in for Rom to fly high and head home. 1 goal conceded vs Bournemouth shouldn't be warrant any changes in how Stek or the defence approach things; however we need them prepared for Benteke and Palaces wide men looking to cross. Attack wise tomorrow we need to mix our play to stress Palace, use the ball like Bournemouth did against us and we did against Sunderland in the 2nd half. We need the attacking midfield 3 to work it between them -think/move off the ball-; using the wide areas but by attracting McArthur/Ledley wide we open up space in the centre to thread through balls higher up the pitch to running players to slot the ball home inside the box. Goalkeeper, defence and the defensive midfield are sound and have gelled; tomorrow has to be the game where we see this from the attacking midfield and striker. The deep lads hungry for the ball and the attack lads tidy on it.. COYB!!

Welcome gwladystreet80. You make points about a test, but I don't think we've had much of a test so far given our fixtures and I was surprised to lose to Bournemouth. When I watch other teams I see attacking in numbers, and lots of players who can score, but I don't see that with Everton. We try to walk the ball into the net every time and there's far too much pissing about. Bolasie had 5 goals and 3 assists in the league last year. Valencia had 4 goals and 2 assists which for a striker is abysmal. We needed goals in the team and we didn't buy anybody to do it, and that is going to cost us.

The test Bournemouth posed to us was us not given the time to settle and play; appreciate they didn't batter us but they did what they had to and got the 3 points at home. Boro were up and at us and we did what we to do to win; continuing our run. Before last weeks game I'd have accepted a draw to lengthen our run; don't forget during our dark days at Goodison we turned over teams we wouldn't have expected to.
Get the point about goal scoring; so far this season we're scoring goals from crosses contesy of Bolasie. Now for us to take a team to the cleaners -which may take time considering this is new Everton following the previous 2 seasons Everton-; we need whoever the attacking 3/striker are to scheme/move/hustleand link up. We'll get the goals by mixing our attack play so the opposition never know what to expect from us. Balls in from wide in the air or drilled in low before or after the full back, pass through the centre high up via 1 pass/through balls, wide men and central attack mid can link up with the striker via one two's to put each other in on goal and then we can shoot outside the box.
Probably gone into detail there but it could take time for the attack players to gel, get on the same page to work in sync and mix things. It's on them in games to decide how the game is prevailing to do what's needed. Look at other areas of the pitch that have gelled quicker and we have clever/experienced players there. Up at the other end we need either something similar; we need experience or a talker/mover/pointer - clever player that knits the attack together.

A nice piece, mate! It's going to be really tough for us as Palace are on a good run of form lately. We're really going to have to be at our best.
