Grace McCatty: Pressure on Everton, not Bristol CitySecond plays third at the Stoke Gifford Stadium on Saturday night as the promotion race hots upBristol City’s Grace McCatty believes the pressure will firmly be on Everton when the promotion rivals go head to head on Saturday night.
The Vixens are second in the FA Women’s Super League 2 table, five points ahead of Everton but have played a match more.
And though the Everton camp are keen to play this down as a win-or-bust contest, McCatty feels the Toffees certainly have the most at stake.
“At the moment we are a couple of points ahead of them, they know they have to come and get a result so the pressure is on them,” said the defender.
“We will focus on us because they are the ones chasing.
“There are five games to go and we are treating every game as a cup final, we have to focus on the 90 minutes and get a result.
“Every game is pretty decisive now and you can’t write anyone else off, hopefully come Saturday night we will have three points.
“We have a good home record, it’s where we play our best so it’s up to Everton to come here and give us a game, and it’s up to them to bring it to us.
“We sat down at the start of the season and 100 per cent wanted promotion, we know that’s where we belong and to get Bristol to where they belong would be massive.
“It would be nice to win the league but we want to get top two and go up.”
Everton boss Andy Spence is keen to play down the significance of the trip to the Stoke Gifford Stadium however, insisting there will still be plenty of chances to break into the top two if his team come unstuck.
“Our preparation has been exactly the same as always. It’s business as usual,” he said.
“Whatever happens this weekend there are enough points to keep playing for.
“In football if you start writing yourself out of things, or think you have cracked it that’s when things can start to go wrong.
“We have to see this as just another game in an 18-game season, remain calm and do the things we always do.
“Every weekend we have expectations of winning, this weekend should be no different.
“They have a good home record as most teams do. But the pitch there is great if you want to play some football, so it should suit us.”
