Bristol City 0-1 EvertonEverton gain ground on their promotion rivals with a 1-0 win against Bristol City.Gabby George is aiming to go the rest of the season unbeaten with Everton after securing a crucial 1-0 victory over promotion rivals Bristol City on Saturday night. A ninth minute penalty from Chloe Kelly proved to be the difference between the sides which sees Everton move to within two points of the Vixens who are in second place. The Blue Girls are just four points off leaders Yeovil Town following the win and George believes her side are right back in contention in the FA Women’s Super League 2. “Every game is important for us now and we are going to try and get three points from each of them and see where we end up at the end of the season,” she said. “This is a great result for us because it puts us right back in contention in the promotion race. After giving her side the lead early on, Kelly nearly extended Everton’s advantage when she cut in from the left-hand side but Caitlin Leach stretched out an arm to deflect her shot away. Bristol started to show more urgency after the break and Everton survived a goalmouth scramble just after the hour with a clutch of players inside the six-yard box but unable to force the ball home. “It’s always good to get three points, especially against one of the better teams in the league. “There are two halves to football, attacking and defending. In the first half we came out and showed what we can do going forward and then in the second half we soaked up what they had to offer.” Everton were denied a second goal at the death when Grace McCatty’s goal-line clearance thwarted Michelle Hinnigan and the Bristol defender thought her side deserved something from the game.
