Everton FC will play their first ever European tie in Switzerland on Thursday February 19, after the Europa League Round of 32 handed them a clash with Young Boys of Berne. The first leg will be in the 32,000 capacity Stade de Suisse, a ground which holds happy memories for Blues skipper Phil Jagielka: he scored there for England against Italy in August 2012. Young Boys currently lie third in the Swiss top flight, eight points behind leaders Basel and level on points with second-placed FC Zurich - but their home record in this season’s Europa League has been formidable. They won all three matches without conceding a goal – against Napoli (2-0), Sparta Prague (2-0) and Slovan Bratislava (5-0). They were only a point away from topping the group, finished just behind Rafa Benitez’s Napoli, confirming their place in the knockout stages with a 2-0 defeat of Sparta Prague in their final group game. The return leg taking place on Thursday 26 February at Goodison. The clubs share one famous former player – Anders Limpar enjoyed his first football outside of his native Sweden in Berne, before moving to Cremonese in Italy and then Arsenal. He enjoyed three years at Goodison and was an FA Cup winner in 1995. The Swiss club's former managers include Christian Gross and Tord Grip.

Yes, a good draw for Everton. You stand a much better chance of progressing than Liverpool or Spurs (or Celtic). A lot of the 'big boys' have been drawn against each other too, so once this tie has been negotiated and with a liitle more luck in the next draw, you could be looking at the Quarter Finals at the very least. I'd hazard a guess that the last eight will be something like: Everton, Roma, Inter Milan, Zenit St Petersburg, Athletico Madrid, Club Brugge, Ajax and Sporting Lisbon.
