Ian Snodin is happy that Everton have drawn Young Boys in the Europa League last 32 – but stressed it is important the Blues don’t underestimate a side that beat Napoli en route to reaching the competition’s knockout stage.
The Everton ambassador was in attendance at Monday’s draw in Nyon where Roberto Martinez’s Toffees were pitted against the team that finished third in last season’s Swiss top division.
“I’m very happy and I’m sure the boss and the players are too,” Snodin told evertontv. “For the fans, it’s only an hour-and-a-half so the distance is not too great. Overall, everyone connected with Everton Football Club will be delighted with the draw.
“The teams that are left in the last 32 of the competition are all good teams. We are not going to take this lightly because it is a tough game over the two legs.
“The beauty is that we are playing at Goodison Park in the second leg. Hopefully we can stay in the tie then bring them back to see what a European night is like at Goodison Park.”
Everton were backed by a large number of travelling fans in the previous two away Europa League fixtures in France and Germany.
Snodin is expecting another Blue invasion when the time comes to play the first leg against Young Boys at the Stade de Suisse on 19 February.
“Evertonians go everywhere, as we saw in Lille and Wolfsburg,” added the Goodison favourite. “Going back years when we were successful in Europe they travelled everywhere, so it will be no exception. They will be over in Switzerland in their numbers.”
The 32,000 capacity stadium has an artificial playing surface, though former midfielder Snodin does not think that will cause too many problems for Everton’s players.
He continued: “The days when I played you just didn’t want to play on a plastic pitch. But today they are fantastic and that will be no problem. The lads will cope with that.”

I always think of naughty headlines when I think of these teams. I'm a bad person. Can you come up with one?
