It's been a boring frustrating 2 years at this club and our performance in Germany suggests things aren't going to change anytime soon. The fans are desperate for a new signing to lift their spirits and it would be fantastic to be able to play one or two new players in this game. Do you think we'll unveil a few at the home game then? If we don't we're going to be in trouble as the league starts a week later.

Idrissa Gana Gueye makes his first Everton start against Espanyol at Goodison this afternoon. The 26-year-old, signed from Aston Villa earlier this week, goes straight into the Blues midfield for the final warm-up fixture. There's good news regarding Phil Jagielka, who is named on the bench having recovered from an injury that has hampered him throughout pre-season. Shani Tarashaj also returns to the bench after missing the last three friendlies. Maarten Stekelenburg is given the nod in goal - and he will be shielded by a back four of Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman, Ramiro Funes Mori and John Stones. Gareth Barry partners Gana at the base of midfield, while Ross Barkley, Kevin Mirallas and Gerard Deulofeu occupy the three more advanced midfield roles. Romelu Lukaku continues as the lone striker. Everton starting XI: Stekelenburg, Baines, Stones, Coleman, Funes Mori, Barkley, Gana, Barry, Deulofeu, Lukaku, Mirallas. Substitutes: Joel, Jagielka, Oviedo, Holgate, Galloway, McCarthy, Davies, Kone, Lennon, Tarashaj. Espanyol starting XI: Roberto, Javi López, Álvaro, O. Duarte, R. Duarte, Hernán, Diop, Víctor S., Piatti. Leo Baptsitao, Gerard.

Everton (v @rcdespanyol) Everton starting XI: Stekelenburg, Baines, Stones, Coleman, Funes Mori, Barkley, Gana, Barry, Deulofeu, Lukaku, Mirallas. Substitutes: Joel, Jagielka, Oviedo, Holgate, Galloway, McCarthy, Davies, Kone, Lennon, Tarashaj. It looks like Stekelenburg is going to be our new keeper judging by his starting in the last few. The side looks closer to a starting eleven today as opposed to a preseason experiment so it will be good to see how we do.
