Do you see how easy it is for teams with quick forwards to sit on our defenders and run through the middle time after time? Distin was near the touch line on one of their goals then strolled back which got my back up a bit as it looked like he wasn't bothered.

I said that when we played Real Madrid and Ronaldo treated our defenders like lamp posts. The game is in the match room if you want to watch it in it's entirety again. (posting members only)

Still not sure what to make of the game, thought Coleman was outstanding at times. Hazard was playing as a 2nd fullback, just a bit unlucky with the own goal. Attacking wise looked very good just a shame defensively we were a shambles. I have to question Martinez on substitutes, it was clear to see that Barry's legs had gone and needed replaced in the middle as Chelsea were winning the battle. Gutted but hopefully Martinez will now know that he's priority now is to get a Centre back in before deadline is shut, I would take Curtis Davis from Hull. I thought the rest of our team played well. The problem for me is the stupid mistakes made by our defenders, and the inability of our whole defensive unit to focus after we have scored. It's not basket ball at the end of the day. Distin is very good in most aspects of defending and also going forward, and Jags is a bit more of a launcher, but both play too high up the pitch when we are playing counter attacking sides with pace, and as a pairing, they are not working as a unit, and for me that is the issue here. Jagielka would do well to forget the England match and spend some time in bed with the Frenchman as they seem to be at odds as a pairing.

Hopefully the shock of 6 goals will be a wake up call for all concerned. In the 2nd half, before they went 3-1 up, we had 73% possession, so we are playing well, and have a good spirit, but we are clumsy defensively and although we got hammered occasionally under David Moyes we were a very strong defending team throughout his tenure. I remember when Martinez was in the pipeline for the job and fans were concerned about his defending history. We won't come up against Chelsea every week, but we have showed that we can play at a level required in most areas, and one or two tweaks might just be all it takes, if not buy a reliable defender. The problem as I see it is that it is a slump in form, and probably not a permanent dip, but they are paid a lot of money to do a much better job and yesterday was a rude awakening. When we are good we are very very good, but when we are bad we are horrid.
