The Lowdown On MFK Ružomberok Everton will be taking on MFK Ružomberok in the third qualifying round of the Europa League. To help you get to know a bit more about our opponents, here's a few handy facts about the Slovakian side... MFK Ružomberok play in the town of Ružomberok in northern Slovakia, which is 50 miles away from the Polish border. The club’s full name is Mestský Futbalový Klub Ružomberok a.s – so we’ll stick to MFK Ružomberok! It was renamed in 2003, having started out as Rózsahegyi Sport Club and having numerous mergers down the years. Founded in 1906, Ružomberok are nicknamed The Rose, with the flower and a football used in the team’s crest. Traditionally playing in white, yellow and red, the club changed its colours to orange and black from 2005. The club gained promotion to the Slovak Second Division for the first time in 1993 and moved into the Slovak Super Liga – Slovakia’s top division – in 1997. Ružomberok enjoyed the most successful season in their history in 2005/06 when they won the domestic double, lifting the Slovak Super Liga and Slovak Cup. The club qualified for this season’s Europa League after finishing third in their league in 2016/17. They edged past Serbian side Vojvodina in the first qualifying round, coming from 2-1 down in the first leg to win 2-0 at home and go through 3-2 on aggregate. Another deficit was closed in the next phase, as SK Brann were beaten 2-0 in the second leg in Norway to secure a 2-1 aggregate win for Ružomberok. Notable former players include strikers Erik Jendrisek and Mulumba Mukendi, and midfielder Michal Fasko, while former Rosenborg and Trabzonspor midfielder Marek Sapara is one of the team’s current key men. The currency in Slovakia is the Euro. Traditional cuisine is bryndzove halushky - potato dumplings with sheep cheese (bryndza) and roasted bacon; zemiakové placky - potato pancakes fried in oil with garlic and flour; and granadír - pasta with potato. Everton can confirm Club officials have commenced discussions with Ruzomberok over ticket allocation for the away leg of the Europa League third qualifying round against the Slovakian outfit. Ronald Koeman’s side will journey to the Ruzomberok Stadium on Thursday 3 August for the second leg of the Europa League third qualifying round - with the first leg to be played at Goodison on Thursday 27 July. Representatives of Everton are liaising with the Slovakian side and are working hard to secure the maximum possible allocation for travelling Everton fans. Ruzomberok earned their place in the third qualifying round with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Brann following a 2-0 win in Bergen on Thursday night. The Slovakian side's stadium has a capacity of less than 5,000. Further details regarding allocation, ticket criteria and the kick-off time of the fixture will be announced on evertonfc.com in due course. Fans are urged not to book travel and accommodation until details over ticket allocation and eligibility criteria are confirmed. Everton FC
