Mason Holgate joined Everton on 13 August 2015, penning a five-year deal.

The 18-year-old defender moved from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee and became the Blues’ fourth new face of the summer following the arrivals of Tom Cleverley, Gerard Deulofeu and David Henen.

Holgate, who can play at centre-half or right-back, was handed his professional debut by the Tykes in December 2014 and went on to make 20 appearances in League One and two in the FA Cup that term.

Mason initially linked up with Everton's Under-21 side as he adapts to life at Goodison Park.

The defender's first season on Merseyside saw him put in a number of solid performances for the Club's Under-21s and he was duly called up for the first-team's pre-season training camp in Austria in the summer of 2016.

After an excellent pre-season, Holgate was rewarded with a senior Everton debut against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the 2016/17 campaign.

He enjoyed an impressive term, figuring as the right-sided centre-back in a defensive three or at right wing-back, before playing every match of England Under-21s' European Championship campaign in summer 2017.

Holgate came to the fore in 2017/18, becoming a regular in the Everton's first team and producing a string of commanding performances. Having made 21 first-team appearances - of which 19 were starts - Holgate's season was curtailed when he was forced to undergo ankle surgery in March 2018.

On 16th December 2016 Mason was given a contract extension keeping him at the club until June 2021.

Mason signed a new deal with Everton on 14th December 2017 keeping him at the club until 2022.

On 31st December 2018, it was announced Mason would join West Bromwich Albion on loan, for the remainder of the season. The deal was made official the following day, 1st Jan 2019.

On 3rd March 2020, Everton announced that Mason had signed a new 5 year deal with the club.

Mason was named as the Young Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season following the 2019-20 campaign.

On 26th August 2023, Everton announced that Mason had completed a loan move to Southampton for the 2023/24 season. However, on Thursday 1st February 2024, the loan to Southampton had been mutually terminated, with the defender agreeing to join Sheffield United for the remainder of the campaign.
