Michael Keane completed his move from Burnley for a fee that could rise to a Club record-equalling £30million in July 2017.

The England defender penned a five-year deal at Goodison Park.

Keane came through the ranks at Manchester United and signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils on his 18th birthday.

He made his first-team debut for the Red Devils in the League Cup against Aldershot Town the same year (2011) and after several more appearances in the competition, and productive loan spells with Leicester City, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, made his Premier League bow as a 43rd-minute substitute in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland in August 2014.

Prior to that, the Stockport-born defender had won United’s Reserve Player of the Year award in 2012 after helping the reserve team win the league title, securing the prize with 60 per cent of the overall vote, with current Three Lions teammate Jesse Lingard named the runner-up on 24 per cent.

Keane joined Burnley on an initial six-month loan deal in September 2014, before completing a permanent move for an undisclosed fee in January 2015.

He made 21 Premier League appearances for the Clarets during his maiden season with the club, but could not prevent Sean Dyche’s side from being relegated at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.

But the centre-back was then an almost ever-present as Burnley returned to the top flight at the first time of asking as Championship title winners.

Keane also weighed in with five goals that term, including vital equalisers against Brighton & Hove Albion and Middlesbrough during the run-in as the Turf Moor outfit held on to top spot.

He then continued to flourish in 2016/17, missing just three games as Burnley retained their Premier League status for the first time in their history.

His performances in the Premier League earned him his first senior England call-up in October 2016 and he was then given his debut by Gareth Southgate – formerly his international manager at Under-21 level - in a friendly defeat in Germany, where he impressed for the full 90 minutes to earn a second cap days later in a World Cup qualifying win over Lithuania at Wembley. Keane’s efforts also earned him a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award and Burnley’s Players’ Player of the Year Award.

Michael, whose father was born in Dublin, played for the Republic of Ireland at Under-17 and Under-19 level before switching allegiances to represent England.

At the end of the 2018-19 season, Michael was awarded the Chairman’s 'Blueblood' Award.

On 30th August 2020, Everton announced that Michael had extended his contract, and signed a new 5 year deal.
