Mike Phelan is set to become the new permanent Hull City manager this week, reports The Guardian. The former Manchester United assistant was placed in temporary charge of Hull at the start of the season following Steve Bruce’s resignation. Many tipped Hull for an immediate return to the Championship but the Tigers, under Phelan’s watch, have made a good start to life back in the Premier League and Phelan is now set to be rewarded with the full time position. “I hope so,” Phelan said when asked if a deal was close to being finalised. “We’ve got to the stage where there’s an offer and it’s a case of making sure everything’s correct and we can get on with it. “It’s a case of sitting down and sifting through a detailed contract; I’m sure it’ll just be a matter of time.”

Mike Phelan 'signs deal' to become Hull City bossMike Phelan has signed his deal to become the next permanent head coach of Hull City. Phelan became caretaker boss following Steve Bruce's departure in July and was named Premier League manager of the month for August. He said last month he had been offered the job, but no final confirmation was forthcoming amid ongoing speculation about the sale of the club. Hull's current owners, the Allam family, have been trying to find a buyer for several months, according to Sky sources. This will be the former Manchester United assistant's first permanent managerial job in football. Speaking last month, Phelan said: "It's difficult for me to comment because I don't know all the issues. "Takeovers are confusing, there are rumours. I've tried to stay focused on my players. "Supporters want answers and they will get them in time. I'm under no illusions. I want it resolved but it's not my decision." Hull are away at Bournemouth on Premier League duty on Saturday. Meanwhile, Hull have announced that reserve team coach Stephen Clemence has left the club after four years to join Steve Bruce's new regime at Aston Villa. SkySports

They need stability.
To win promotion and then not have the the support from the board they needed was a bad state of affairs.
