Besic Back In ActionBlues midfielder plays first international match for more than a year.Mo Besic was given match action as Bosnia and Herzegovina drew 0-0 at home to Greece in World Cup Qualifying Group H on Friday night. The Blues midfielder came on as a 77th-minute substitute in Zenica for his first international appearance since May 2016. The 24-year-old missed the majority of the 2016/17 campaign after suffering a knee injury while playing for Everton in Wayne Rooney’s testimonial at Manchester United last August. Besic featured for the Toffees’ Under-23s towards the end of the season to help regain match fitness and was named on the bench for the first team’s final two matches of the league term. Bosnia’s goalless draw leaves them third in Group H, a point behind second-place Greece. Belgium lead the table by two points thanks to a 2-0 victory away to Estonia. Romelu Lukaku played the full 90 minutes for the Red Devils, while his Blues teammate Kevin Mirallas was an unused substitute, as the visitors won courtesy of goals by Dries Mertens and West Brom’s Nacer Chadli.

Pickford The Hero As England DrawKeeper saves penalty and Holgate also plays as U21s start with point against Sweden. Jordan Pickford saved a penalty to earn England a goalless draw in their European Under-21 Championship opener against Sweden. With no breakthrough in Poland going into the final nine minutes, the former Sunderland stopper, who only completed a Club-record move to Goodison Park on Thursday, turned away Linus Wahlqvist’s spot-kick before also saving Carlos Strandberg’s follow-up. Pickford played the entire 90 minutes, as did his Everton teammate Mason Holgate. England, managed by Aidy Boothroyd, tried to take the game to the Swedes and hit the bar when Ben Chilwell’s effort deflected up on to the woodwork. At the other end, Holgate produced a well-timed slide tackle to halt Strandberg as he looked certain to go through on goal. England next face Slovakia on Monday, before completing their group A campaign against Poland next Thursday. Slovakia play Poland in Friday’s other game at 7.45pm (UK).

Pickford And Holgate Eye Last FourBlues duo preparing for England Under-21s' showdown with host nation Poland on Thursday. Everton duo Jordan Pickford and Mason Holgate will be looking to guarantee England Under-21s’ place in the semi-finals of the European Championship on Thursday evening. The Young Lions, who currently sit top of Group A on four points, take on host nation Poland at the Kielce City Stadion, a 7.45pm kick-off (BST), knowing a win will be enough to secure progression. Blues duo Pickford and Holgate have been heavily involved in England’s opening two fixtures, with both starting the matches so far, and the former saving a penalty to ensure a clean sheet and a valuable point against Sweden last week. Now facing Poland, with more than 15,000 spectators expected to be against them on the night, manager Aidy Boothroyd has called on his players to stay fully focused as they bid to keep their destiny in their own hands. “We were quite pleased with a point from our first game but it’s taken a bit of waking up to realise we had to win against Slovakia and we have to win this one, too,” said Boothroyd. “We don’t want to put our future in anyone else’s hands. “We’re here to go as far as we can and if we keep improving then why can’t we reach the semis and go beyond that? But first things first, what we definitely won’t do is get carried away and complacent. “We’ve got a job to do against a really good team with 15,000 people behind them and against us. When we go out on the pitch we have to make sure that we deliver a performance that earns the respect of the crowd.” Second-placed Slovakia play third-placed Sweden in tonight’s other game in Group A. Holgate again didn't look like a Right Back the other night. I stand by what I said , he is a Centre Back.
