Everton's Rosella Ayane claims pressure is on leaders YeovilEverton are nine points behind league leaders Yeovil with two games in hand ahead of Sunday's clash.
New Everton arrival Rosella Ayane claims the pressure is all on league leaders Yeovil Town ahead of the Lady Glovers visit to the Select Security Stadium on Sunday.
Yeovil Town have stormed to the top of the FA Women’s Super League 2 with seven wins from their opening 10 games and are pushing hard for promotion to WSL 1.
Everton are nine points behind with two games in hand but Ayane, on loan from Chelsea having previously enjoyed a spell at Bristol City, is confident her new team-mates can cause an upset.
“I have been really impressed by them. They are top of the table and have not lost since the first game of the season,” she said.
“But, being league leaders, I think the pressure is on them to stay up there, rather than being on us.
“On paper I think Everton have one of the best teams in the league. But you can have as much quality as you want, without teamwork you won’t get anywhere.
“Yeovil are a tight team and work well together, we need to match that. It’s a very big game, make or break for them.
“I’ve already played against them three times this season when I was with Bristol City, so there will be plenty of familiar faces.
“I’ve got a bit of game footage that I will share with (manager) Andy Spence, so hopefully that can give us an advantage.”
The leaders put five past struggling Watford last weekend and are the league’s highest goal scorers with 26 goals, seven more than Bristol City, the next highest, have managed.
But midfielder Helen Bleazard says her team-mates are not considering a push for WSL 1 but concentrating on picking up three points from every game.
“We’re not thinking about promotion,” she said.
“We have one of the smallest budgets in the league and we wouldn’t have been expected to be top of the table at this stage, but I think we are starting to turn a few heads.
“I think Everton is a must-win game. A draw is great, but we want to win every game because if you draw too many games you start to let teams back in and we want to keep matters in our own hands.
“It’s going to be a great occasion for WSL 2.
“The games between the top three might be decisive, but we have seen Everton lose at Watford, so that shows you every game is crucial.”
