Defender Morgan Feeney has been included in the England squad for this month's European Under-17 Championships in Azerbaijan - his first international call-up. The youngster, who has appeared for both Everton Under-18s and Under-21s this season, has been named in Steve Cooper's 18-man squad for the tournament, which was won two years ago by a team including Toffees pair Jonjoe Kenny and Ryan Ledson. The Young Lions will tackle Sweden in their opening Group C game on Friday 6 May, before taking on France in their second match three days later and Denmark on Thursday 12 May. From there, the group winners and runners-up from each of the four groups will progress to the tournament's quarter-finals. Academy defender Morgan Feeney made his England youth debut by featuring for the Young Lions on Friday. The Under-17s kicked off their European Championship Finals campaign in Azerbeijan against group opponents Sweden, but fell to a 2-1 loss. It was a memorable occasion for 17-year-old Feeney, however, who emerged from the bench on 25 minutes to collect his first international cap. By this point, Steve Cooper's side were already 1-0 down following an early goal by Joel Asoro. The Swede then added another on the hour-mark before Arsenal's Reiss Nelsen netted what would prove to be a mere consolation. During an impressive season for the Blues' Under-18s, Bootle-born Feeney has also gained game time for David Unsworth's Under-21s - and his form merited a first England call-up in time for this month's tournament. The Under-17s face France on Monday at 5pm GMT.

Everton defender Morgan Feeney helped England to a 2-0 win over France in the European Under-17 Championship group stage on Monday. The Bootle-born centre-back (back row, second from the right), who joined the Blues’ Academy aged seven, played the full game as the Young Lions recorded a clean sheet over the current champions of the competition. The victory, courtesy of goals from Ben Morris and Reiss Nelson, was enough to keep England’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages alive. After a narrow defeat to Sweden in their opening game, Steve Cooper’s side now face a clash with Denmark on Thursday, knowing a win would secure progression from Group C.
