THE weigh-in for Tony Bellew’s world title showdown with Ilunga Makabu at Goodison Park will be at Liverpool One shopping centre on Saturday May 28, at 1pm. The two cruiserweight fighters will weigh in with the other fighters lined up for the mouth-watering bill. But first Bellew and Makabu will stage a public work out at the Hilton Hotel on Monday at 12.30pm. The final pre-fight press conference will take place at the Royal Liver Buildings on Thursday. Bellew is relishing his bid to conquer the world. On the Bank Holiday Sunday showdown he said:”I don’t know what it is but you’d think it was Christmas or something. I can’t explain it; I’ve been part of this mad city my whole life, I’m a Scouser, I’m a mad Evertonian and on a Bank Holiday weekend, there’s no better time for this to happen.”

Tony Bellew has been warned that fighting at Goodison Park will be a once in a lifetime experience.Johnny Nelson, a 59-fight veteran who retired in 2006 and is now Sky Sports’ leading boxing pundit, insists the emotion the Wavertree pugilist will experience will be something he’ll never repeat. Nelson, himself a former Cruiserweight world champ, has been working following Bellew’s preparations for the upcoming fight closely and was with the Bomber at Goodison on the final day of the Premier League season. “I’m a Goodison virgin,” he admitted to evertontv. “Tony is a massive Evertonian and he said, ‘once Everton touches you, you become a Blue’. “Tony is fighting here on the 29th and we’re helping to build the promotion for that fight. “We want to show how Liverpool-based fans get behind their sports stars.” Bellew was invited on to the pitch at half-time of the 3-0 win over Norwich and Nelson admits he’s impressed by the backing the 33-year-old enjoys from fans and players. He smiled: “He was a little snotty-nosed kid and all of a sudden all the players know him, the management know him, the chairman knows him! “When he talks about football, his knowledge of the game, the history of the game, is second to none. “The chance for him to fight here, outdoors - the atmosphere - even for Tony, he thinks he knows what to expect. “But I am telling you now, when he walks out the tunnel and towards the ring and sees all those people there, it is going to be something he will never replicate.”

Bomber Calls The ShotsHeavyweight boxer David Price has revealed how he has been banned from walking out to his regular entrance music this Sunday by Tony Bellew! The 6ft 8in heavyweight is on the undercard for the boxing extravaganza at Goodison, where he will go head-to-head with Czech fighter Vaclav Pejsar. Price, a Liverpool fan, normally makes his introduction to the sound of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. But diehard Blue Bellew, whose WBC title fight with Ilunga Makabu is top billing, has put the blocks on the 32-year-old’s plans. “The main talking point with Tony has been my ring entrance music because I normally come out to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ but Tony has let me know that the Club will not let that happen,” Price explained. “Tony has banned it so I will have to choose an alternative.” Fellow Red Callum Smith, who has been rated as British boxing’s brightest prospect by Bellew, is also part of the line-up on Sunday night. Price believes that this weekend’s spectacle, regardless of footballing allegiances, will prove to be a great night for the Merseyside region. “I’ve been to Goodison plenty of times for football but not boxing, so it will be a little bit different. “But make no bones about it - I’m delighted to be part of a massive event. It’s going to be great for the city on Sunday.”
