Everton fan Tony Bellew hoping to realise 'fairytale' Goodison world title dreamBellew hoping to secure WBC cruiserweight title fight at the home of EvertonTony Bellew extended his record to 25-2-1 Goodison Park is being lined up as the "dream" venue for Tony Bellew's shot at world title glory. Terms have been agreed for the Wavertree fighter to face Ilunga Makabu this summer for the WBC cruiserweight title - and Everton could host the fight. Bellew has long dreamt of fighting for world honours at his beloved Goodison and it is understood that the Old Lady is promoter Eddie Hearn's preferred choice as fight venue. A date of Saturday, June 4 is what Bellew is working towards with talks underway for the fight to take place at Goodison, although nothing has been agreed. Bellew starred in Hollywood blockbuster Creed, the latest film in the Rocky series, and Goodison was the venue for final fight scene where his character - Ricky Conlan - takes on Adonis Creed. And now the 33-year-old could be fighting at Goodison for real after a deal was struck for him to face Makabu. Hearn said: "We have made no secret of our desire to stage this bout at Goodison to recreate the scenes of the recent Creed movie - it's a fairytale story and the Club are very keen to make it happen. "The working date is June 4 and we hope to have venue and date confirmation sometime next week." Phil Kirkbride - Liv Echo

Confirmed: Tony Bellew to fight Ilunga Makabu for WBC cruiserweight title on May 29Tony Bellew will fight Ilunga Makabu for the vacant WBC cruiserweight title at Everton's Goodison Park on May 29, promoters Matchroom have confirmed. The fight represents Bellew's first for a world title since his step up from light-heavyweight, where he lost to both Nathan Cleverly and Adonis Stevenson, and the fulfilment of a long-held ambition in doing so at the stadium of the football club he supports. "I'm over the moon to get this opportunity," said Bellew. "Eddie Hearn and Bill Kenwright the chairman of Everton have got this done, I can't thank them enough. "They are both behind me 100 per cent and I'm looking forward to getting this all under way. "I've been training for four weeks now and this is the defining fight and night of my career. The experience has been passed, I've done it all now, British, Commonwealth, European (champion) - beaten fringe contenders, former world champions - I'm ready to conquer the world. "I was born to lift that belt on May 29, I've achieved my dream getting this fight on, I know I'm going to win, I can't and won't be defeated at Goodison Park - the greatest stadium in the world." Victory over Makabu, of the Democratic Republic of Congo and who last lost when being stopped on his professional debut in 2008, could make Bellew Britain's 13th present world champion. It would also conclude an unusual period in his career in which he avenged his defeat by Cleverly, played the role of Ricky Conlan in the film Apollo, and pursued a fight with former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. He won't want to lose at Goodison so this fight will probably be a safe one.

As long as he doesn't listen to Martinez ie. We don't want him to go 8 or 9 rounds up by attractive football (Oops, sorry; I meant Boxing) and then get knocked out in the last round. It could be an incredible fight at an incredible stadium being watched by an incredible manager doing an incredible dance in the background when he thinks the camera isn't on him and not forgetting the incredible fans.
