... while he remains happy at Sevilla if the financially troubled outfit decide they need the cash from his sale the Spanish international would welcome a move to help his club.
Everton were dumped out of the FA Cup at the weekend as once again their lack of strength in depth was exposed by a rampant Wigan Athletic side.
The thin team is a consequence of numerous unproductive transfer windows including this winter when several big targets slipped by David Moyes and co.
Leroy Fer was the first to pass them by when the Dutch international nicknamed ‘The Bouncer’ was discovered to not be as hard as nails as we first thought.
A botched operation put Everton off in the medical screening and the plug was pulled on a deal.
In the end they brought in John Stones from Barnsley alone and after the progressive summer which saw Steven Pienaar, Kevin Mirallas and Steven Naismith all arriving it was a huge disappointment.
Everton also sought to take advantage of another European team struggling for finances but in a far more spectacular fashion than on Merseyside with their pursuit of Spanish international striker Alvaro Negredo.
You could see why Everton were after him. Goals come easily to the man from Madrid something he has proved in his four years at Sevilla.
This season is shaping up to be his best yet; with 20 goals in 30 games just six off his previous record from 2010-11 and Everton figured they could get their man on the cheap.
Sevilla are one of many teams struggling financially in Spain but they also have a very prudent President in the form of Jose Maria Del Nido who is never comfortable letting his players go below their asking price. Just ask Lokomotiv Moscow who tried in vain to snap up Ivan Rakitic this January.
Although the deal could not be completed in time during the January window Negredo has previously mentioned a desire to play in the Premier League when linked with the likes of Arsenal and Spurs so there is a chance Everton could sign him.
The 27-year-old has also been speaking about moving away insisting he is happy to stay; but will leave if necessary to help the club stay afloat:
"I’m happy here. If the president says that he will not sell, there are other players that can go. He will seek what is best for the club and if I have to leave then it is because he sees fit. But I am calm and at ease here. This city and this team have given me a lot. In the end, we are all in the shop window. I want to finish the season here and then the president will decide. For better or for worse, we will all benefit."
So while Everton have their own financial problems Sevilla could prove the old adage that there is always somebody worse off than you.

We were linked with him in January, but his agent wasn't having any of it.
