Everton Academy graduates Gethin Jones and Kieran Dowell visited New Park Primary School as part of the school’s ‘Careers Week’ to shed some light on what it takes to become a professional footballer. The Under-21s duo spent time at the local primary school with a group of young students each taking part in Career’s Week which has involved learning about different professions as well as getting hands on with their own enterprise challenge. The students spent the first half of the session asking the young Blues’ about how they became professional football players, the importance of their education when they were growing up and their aspirations for the future. Our very own students of the game then got to try their hands at a bit of teaching when they got the chance to put on a football coaching session with some of the children. “We had a great time meeting all of the children today and hopefully they took on board what Gethin and I said about working hard, making sure you still get a good education even if you want to be a footballer and never giving up,” said midfielder Dowell. “We also got to play a bit of football with them which was good fun and we got a quick tour of some of the great facilities they have at the school including a really cool interactive area.” Year 6 teacher, Ian Willis, added: “Kieran and Gethin were excellent with the children during our aspirations and enterprise week, they took part in a Q and A session which gave all of the children a chance to ask a question and then we put together a quick football lesson which they all loved. “Both players are great ambassadors for Everton Football Club and the children haven’t stopped talking about them since.”
