Everton Under-18s enter the final week of the regular league season still with a chance of winning the North Division title. With one round of games left to play, the Young Blues trail leaders Manchester City by two points. City play their final match on Wednesday afternoon against Manchester United - and a defeat would open the door for Everton to finish at the summit, should they then go on beat Derby County this Saturday. Both Everton and Manchester City have already secured a place in Group 1 - the end-of-season breakaway league consisting of the top four clubs from both the North and South sections, from which the winners are crowned overall English champions after a seven-match round-robin format. And Ebbrell, whose stint in charge of the Under-18s began at the start of January, believes it would be a massive fillip for Everton’s starlets if they could to go into the next stage of the competition as league winners. He told evertontv: “Manchester City go to Manchester United on Wednesday. If they draw or win the game, they win the league as it is. Hopefully they won’t and we will have something to play for against Derby on Saturday. “It shows the efforts of the players throughout the season, to still be in with a chance at this stage. It shows that they have performed well throughout. “I’ve been with them five weeks now. I’ve really enjoyed my time with them and there are some good attitudes from some good players.” Everton head into Saturday’s match against Derby on the back of two morale-boosting victories. The Young Blues followed up the 8-0 thrashing of Newcastle United with a gritty 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Ebbrell added: “We played well at the weekend. That’s the pleasing thing - that what we are working on in training is coming out in the matches. “The scoreline wasn’t a wide enough margin. We need to be a bit more ruthless in the final third but the win was fully merited.”
