Hollinshead Delighted With Brace
Midfielder revels in her two goals against Stoke City.
Emily Hollinshead admitted her brace in the 7-0 FA Cup win over Stoke City was the ideal way to start the 2016 campaign.
The Blues booked their place in the fourth round of this season’s competition with an emphatic victory over their Women's Premier League Northern Division opponents.
Joining Hollinshead on the score-sheet were Simone Magill, Michelle Hinnigan, Claudia Walker, Kelly Jones and Chaney Boye-Hlorkah.
For the young midfielder, it was the perfect way to kick off the new campaign.
“It was a great way to start the season,” she said. “We were all really excited to get going.
“In terms of my goals, I won’t lie – the first one was a cross! But I’ll take goals any way they come. The second one was a shot with my left foot, which I’m really pleased with because I have been working on that in training.
“It’s great to be on the score-sheet and one of my targets this season is to get more goals.
“It was great to see so many different goalscorers in the game as well. Hopefully that will be the same throughout the season.”
The Blues were made to pay for squandering chances at times last season, and Hollinshead admits a lot of pre-season work has been given over to improving the side’s attacking threat.
“We know we need to be a lot more clinical in the final third compared to last season,” she added. “That was one of our weaknesses. We are working hard on that in training.
“Personally, I want to score more goals but also get more crosses in, which can help with that.
“We are working on getting the basics right as well, things like two-touch passing. If we can get things like that right then results like Stoke should come.”
