Boss Happy With Notts TestAndy Spence sees plenty of positives despite pre-season defeat at WSL 1 side County.Everton manager Andy Spence believes Sunday’s pre-season friendly against Notts County will prove beneficial for his young squad. The result – a 4-0 defeat – was disappointing, but the Blues boss insisted the chance to play against seasoned international players will serve as a reminder of the level the Blues are striving to reach. Everton were 1-0 down at the break through Natasha Flint, before a seven-minute spell in the second period brought three further strikes from Danielle Buet, Ellen White and Leanne Crichton. But with the Toffees facing the likes of England stars Jess Clarke and Carly Telford, the real benefit was the experience gained from the friendly. “We know we didn’t play particularly well, but this was a good game to play in in terms of our preparation,” reflected Spence. “There is no point not testing yourself in pre-season. “We have a young team, so for them to experience playing against a WSL 1 side can only benefit our players. You look at the front three of Notts – Rachel Williams, Jess Clarke and Ellen White - and all three of them have played internationally. Their know-how was very evident. “We know the level we want to get to and to play opposition already at that level provides a huge learning curve for the players.” Everton Ladies
