Everton can use Merseyside derby against Liverpool to work out frustrations says Seamus Coleman 14 Nov 2013 22:29 Points dropped in 0-0 draw with rock-bottom Crystal Palace hang over the Toffees going into clash with the neighbours Mersey mission: Coleman and co have plenty of motivation for boss Martinez's first derby Jamie McDonald Everton have a point to prove in Roberto Martinez's first Merseyside derby, according to Seamus Coleman. Liverpool and the Toffees have made impressive starts to the season and are currently second and sixth respectively, separated by just three points. Goodison defender Coleman said there will be huge expectation on Everton's players to make a statement in Martinez's first clash with Liverpool since taking charge. "With it being the manager's first one, we'll be looking to prove a point and it's a big game in terms of the table as well," said Coleman. "I'm sure the manager will want us to take the frustration of the Palace game [Everton drew 0-0] and go and beat Liverpool. "He'll be looking at the tapes of the Palace game this week, analysing it, and then moving forward to start thinking about Liverpool." Getting shirty: Coleman challenges Liverpool's Jose Enrique last season Martinez himself said he was relishing his first taste of a Merseyside derby, when the two rival clubs clash at Goodison Park a week on Saturday. "It's such an exciting fixture, you can tell it's got a special feel about it," said Martinez. "Especially now that both teams are in very good positions after good starts to the season. "Obviously, when the players are away on international duty, that's where the frustration arrives because you can't really control what they're doing. "But the communication with national teams is pretty good in all the cases and we can monitor what they do and how well they get on with all of their work."
