Everton Ladies defender Lindsay Johnson capped off her final game in style, scoring a goal and providing three assists to help the Blues secure a final day 5-3 victory over Oxford United. Johnson, who joined the Blues in 2003, announced prior to yesterday’s game that she would be calling time on a career that has spanned 15 years. During that period, the 35-year-old won the League Cup in 2008, the FA Cup in 2010 and was also capped 43 times for England. And with yesterday’s 5-3 victory confirming third place for the Toffees, Johnson says it was the perfect end to her playing career. “It’s special. It’s really nice that we have come away with the three points and third place because we’ve deserved that.” Johnson said. “To finish with a goal as well with the girls, it really is special and it means a lot to me. “I don’t usually find myself up that half of the pitch too often, but Nicola (Anderson) has played me right-back during the second half of the season and I’ve really enjoyed it. “It’s given me the freedom to get up and down and I’ve found myself there a little bit more, and it was kind of written in the stars that I’d score which was really nice. “But it was about making the most of my last 90 minutes – I’ve had a long career and I’ve really enjoyed it, but you know when it’s the right time and the right time is now.”
