Under-18s Continue Perfect Start
Brewster hits a brace as Young Blues beat Stoke 3-0.
Everton Under-18s continued their impressive start to the season with a 3-0 win over Stoke City at Finch Farm on Saturday morning.
A brace from Delial Brewster and a strike from Antony Evans secured the victory which makes it three wins out of three for the young Blues.
Brewster, who was a threat throughout the contest, opened the scoring as early as the sixth minute to give the Toffees the perfect start.
After netting on his return from injury at Sunderland last weekend, the forward was on the scoresheet again as he capitalised on a heavy touch from a Stoke midfielder and made no mistake with his finish, rounding the keeper before tapping home.
Despite the early setback for the visitors, Stoke began to get a foothold in the game and restricted Everton to very few chances in the opening half.
And Potters could have been level just five minutes into the second period when Toby Wells was found at the back post but the defender couldn’t keep his header down.
As the visitors searched for a way back into the game, more space opened up for the Toffees and both Daniel Bramall and Brewster could have doubled their side’s lead but were both denied by goalkeeper Christopher Marques.
However, there was nothing the Stoke stopper could do when Bramall drove deep into the opposition half before crossing for Evans, who smashed home.
In the final minutes, the three points were confirmed as Brewster latched on to a through ball and produced another cool finish to grab his second of the game.
The performance and final outcome delighted Under-18s coach Paul Tait.
“We’d watched a video of Stoke from last week and we saw their formation was going to be a real test to play against.” Tait said after the final whistle.
“In the first half we couldn’t really get to grips with it. We couldn’t break them down and we couldn’t get in behind them, so we had a little chat at half-time and I think we played a lot better in the second half.
“The early goal from Delial was very important because the longer that it is 0-0 it gives Stoke belief and keeps them in the game, and also if you score they’ve got to come out a little bit more and try and score.
“Stoke did come out more in the second half and that left some more space for us in behind. We’ve got some real pace in the team and I thought we exploited that.”
