The Club’s official charity continued its Community First 11 campaign in July when Bibby Maritime was recognised at a recent Everton in the Community Ambassadors event at Goodison Park for its unstinting support and commitment to the charity.
The Community First 11 campaign sees 11 individuals or organisations recognised for their loyalty to the Club’s official charity for the last five years or more and December will see Goodison Park bring all Community Champions together for a celebration dinner.
These 11 people and/or organisations have been selected by the charity’s management team for having the vision to improve the community and the determination, creativity and ingenuity to make a difference.
Bibby Maritime Managing Director Jon Osborne was in attendance at Goodison Park for an Everton in the Community Ambassadors business breakfast where he was presenting to the room about Bibby Maritime’s involvement with the Club’s official charity and the CSR benefits this holds for their organisation and the wider community. As he was concluding the end of his presentation he was caught off guard by Everton Ambassador Ian Snodin and EitC CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale who announced Bibby Maritime as the most recent inductee into the Community First 11.
Bibby Maritime have been a global provider of premier workforce accommodation for over 30 years and have been working with Everton in the Community since 2010/11 when they opted to financially back the North West Ability Counts League which a number of the charity’s Pan Disability teams play in as well as funding the Mental Health League.
The financial backing of Bibby Maritime provides funding for essentials such as player facilities and refereeing costs. Their generosity benefits over 150 disabled players, representing over 27 teams who take part from all over the North West and North Wales. The league is a frequent arena for many individuals to strive towards achieving success on the European, World and Paralympic stage with two graduates from the charity’s own disability programme representing Team GB at the London Paralympics in 2012.
Speaking after being recognised as a Community First 11 champion, Jon Osborne said: “It’s been a really nice surprise to be recognised today and something that we weren’t expecting! We support EitC to promote the work of the charity and the work that they do. It isn’t about publicity for Bibby Maritime, it’s about supporting our local community.
“Everton in the Community is fantastic and well known throughout the country as being the best programme run by a football club. What we do in funding the Ability Counts League is just a small part of that but we take a lot from seeing how much the players enjoy it and it gives us a great deal of pride that we can play that part within our community.”
When asked why Bibby Maritime were such worthy recipients Denise Barrett-Baxendale said, “Our First 11 campaign is to recognise people who have given phenomenal support to Everton in the Community for five years plus and Bibby Maritime have been a big part of that. Their financial support has enabled us to offer sport development opportunities for our participants as well as opening a door to them to go on and achieve great success both individually and as a team.”
The Everton Community Ambassadors’ Club provides business and networking opportunities to local organisations whilst providing members with the opportunity to put something back into our community whilst growing and developing your business.

My Great Uncle Jack worked for Bibby's as an Engineer Officer for about 20 years after WW2 and they were very good employers in those days. They paid for a lot of medical work that he needed after a pretty serious fall he had in New York...and that was his own fault and happened whilst ashore and very drunk. They needn't have spent a cent on him but they did. It's nice to see that the same spirit continues within the company.
