McCarthy fits the bill for Everton emergency but Wigan won't sell cheap Everton will step up interest in Wigan midfielder James McCarthy this week. Manager Roberto Martinez wants two midfielders and has already enquired about taking Gareth Barry on loan from Manchester City and has an interest in City left-back Aleksandr Kolarov should Manchester United prove successful in their attempt to prise Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini away. Everton scouts have also watched Belgium international left-back Sebastien Pocognoli, 26, of Hannover as they take precautionary measures. McCarthy, 22, has held talks with Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni about leaving Wigan and would enjoy working with Martinez again at Everton. He would not come cheap though with Wigan looking for around £15million hence the need for Everton to get optimum price from United for Fellaini. Martinez also mainatains an interest in Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady. Wigan in turn are weighing up a loan move for Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell. Impending: If Marouane Fellaini moves to United then Roberto Martinez needs to sign a central midfielder fast

We would be mad to see Fellaini just to get Mccarthy. It will weaken the team. Having both yes, but not swap.
