Ronald Koeman’s players swapped the grass for ice – but their skills while on a team break in Switzerland left a lot to be desiredSouthampton ended a 387 minute wait for a home goal when beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on Tuesday and with no fixture this weekend, Ronald Koeman decided to take the team away to Switzerland for some team bonding and recovery.Having spent the day checking out the slopes in Davos, the players and staff padded up and took to the rink of local club, HC Davos, in the evening but it is fair to say their skills on the grass did not translate well onto the ice. After the win over Palace, which came courtesy of a second-half strike from Sadio Mané, Koeman said: “Football is strange. It’s all about the confidence. I think it can be very important. This win maybe is one of the key moments of the season.” The manager, whose side sit in sixth position in the Premier League and are four points off the Champions League, looked a little worse for wear by the end of his exertions on the ice. The evening ended with Shane Long competently covering Bob Marley & The Wailers’ No Woman, No Cry for his team-mates. Southampton’s travelling party will return on Saturday to prepare for next weekend’s trip to the league leaders, Chelsea, before welcoming Burnley to St Mary’s the weekend after. They are spending Friday skiing in the Swiss resort. By Alan Smith, Guardian
