Everton launch final bid for Wigan's James McCarthy Everton are hoping to close in on Wigan's James McCarthy after launching a final £13.5m bid for the midfielder this evening. Manager Roberto Martinez wants the Republic of Ireland international to join him and former teammates Arouna Kone and Antolin Alcaraz at Goodison Park. Everton have already had a bid of £12m rejected for the former Hamilton Academical midfielder. And Martinez, who brought McCarthy to the Premier League from the SPL in 2009, believes a deal for the 22-year-old is close. New Wigan boss Owen Coyle slapped a £20m price on his shoulders in the hope of preventing a further bid, however it looks likely a deal will be struck for much less. Martinez is hoping to conclude a deal in next week as he begins to shape his first team squad for the new season.
