It was a disappointing weekend all round for Everton’s youngsters currently out on loan. After being introduced as a 76th-minute substitute, Chris Long could not prevent Brentford from falling to a 1-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough. Grant Leadbitter’s penalty on the stroke of half-time was ultimately enough to seal all three points for the visitors. Former Everton Academy midfielder Adam Forshaw made his debut for Middlesbrough against the Bees following his move from Wigan Athletic last week. Elsewhere, John Lundstram played 76 minutes as Leyton Orient suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Scunthorpe United. The O’s found themselves trailing 2-0 at the interval, before Tom Hopper made it 3-0 four minutes after the restart. Darius Henderson’s penalty gave the hosts a glimmer of hope with 22 minutes remaining, but Hopper’s second of the afternoon eventually resigned Fabio Liverani’s side to a heavy 4-1 defeat. Meanwhile, Matthew Pennington, who is still recovering from a knock picked up in training, was not involved for Coventry City as the Sky Blues drew 2-2 at home to Rochdale. And Ben McLaughlin’s AFC Telford United were not in action after their away game against Grimsby Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
