Everton to install 'Rolls-Royce pitch' at Goodison to drive Martinez's Blues to gloryEverton are set to install a brand new, state-of-the-art playing surface, which has been described as the 'Rolls-Royce of pitches'. Having appointed Roberto Martinez as manager last week, the Toffees are now improving the quality of the Goodison Park turf and hope it will aid the Spanish boss' attacking, passing style of play for which he is known. The system will be the same type used in recent World Cup and Champions League finals and will be one of the best in the country. Head Goodison groundsman Bob Lennon told the 'Evertonian' magazine: 'What we are doing this year is a full renovation of the pitch, which includes a new system called Desso Grassmaster. It’s the same as Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wembley use.' Former Blues manager David Moyes, who left the club last month to coach Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, bemoaned the Goodison pitch last term and was worried it would hamper his team's play. It's believed the Scot is keen to improve the pitch at his new club too and is looking to install a similar system to the one being used by Everton ahead of the upcoming campaign. The new pitch won't be affected by adverse weather conditions and Lennon said: “We’re doing this to hopefully give the pitch consistency through the year instead of just from summer through to Christmas time. All this bad weather we’ve had over the last couple of years has been a problem, so we’ve had to have a decent pitch this year.” Lennon also believes it is important for the club to match it's rivals. 'We have to keep up with the rest of the league. Desso Grassmaster is what they had for the World Cup in South Africa and this system will be used for the next 20 to 30 years. It is state-of-the-art, so there will be nothing to improve on this one' he said. The Blues, who finished above Mersey rivals Liverpool for a second consecutive season last term, played some of their best football of the Moyes era during the campaign just gone and will hope to carry this on under former Wigan boss Martinez.

Why wait until Moyes has gone for all these significant improvements? It's great playing on a good pitch, but it's a piss wet Tuesday evening away to some lower league side where we need improvement.

It's probably irrelevant on the new boss and more to do with while we have some cash. Agree about the cup matches tho.
