Bellamy reveals he was close to signing for Everton but called off the deal after tense and hostile' meeting with Moyes
Craig Bellamy has revealed he came close to signing for Everton until a ‘bizarre’ encounter with David Moyes.
In his autobiography GoodFella, serialised in the Daily Mirror, Bellamy reveals he met the Everton manager at the Celtic Manor Hotel in 2005.
The Liverpool fan and former player was convinced he was joining their rivals and even agreed terms, before having his hopes dashed in a second meeting with a ‘tense and hostile’ Moyes.

Bellamy sensed Moyes was looking for a way out and described it as ‘bizarre’ after he was presented with a list of rules that included not shaking his head if he was given an instruction during a game and speaking directly to the manager, rather than anyone else, if he had anything on his mind.
‘I would have signed without that second meeting, but now I couldn’t,’ he wrote. ‘I don’t hold a grudge and have got a lot of time for him. My guess is someone told him I would be trouble, and he panicked.’
Bellamy also recalls a text threat from Alan Shearer after the TV pundit criticised him.
‘His big, hard Al act wasn’t for me. I watched him digging out Lomana LuaLua once, and when LuaLua told him to go to the back of the coach and say it to his face, Al didn’t fancy that much. He didn’t move an inch.’
grudge: Bellamy eventually signed for Liverpool but holds no grudge against Moyes who has subsequently tried to sign him

He did eventually sign for West Ham .
It was a bit of a surprise when he joined , he was injured a lot at the beginning but when he got in his stride he was brilliant .
He was eventually forced to move to Man City .

He was eventually forced to move to Man City . Top player who had a great work ethic. I think Moyes has his lickle ways ha ha, but he'd have been ideal for us. Will probably make a good coach one day, not to make him sound like an Arriva employee. |

Our players have to go through stringent surveillance to ensure they are the perfect 'team player' for the dressing room. The question as to whether they are good or not is irrelevant. I'm surprised our defenders don't say "after you, I insist" to the striker.

There's nothing wrong with letting a player who has been tagged as 'disruptive ' know where he stands before he joins , and I suppose Bellamy couldn't work within those limitations .
Di Canio will always be one of my favourite West Ham players , but it was embarrassing to see him undermine the manager during the Roeder tenure, it did nothing for team spirit and we were relegated .
I suppose that's what Moyes had in mind by presenting Bellamy with his set of rules .
