But now Marouane Fellaini has revamped his thick black afro silver – all in the name of charity.
For one night only, Fellaini has dyed his hair silver after taking part in a challenge to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the club's charity, Everton in the Community. The Belgian promised to undergo a dramatic makeover if Evertonians could raise £25,000 by May 16 – which they comfortably did.

Brillo pad? Fellaini's hair certainly resembles the kitchen scourerFellaini sported his daring style, which was created by celebrity colourist Josh Wood, at Everton's end of season awards on Thursday night and, inevitably, it caused a stir.
Many will be disappointed that Fellaini has no plans to keep it for the final match of David Moyes' 11-year reign at Chelsea on Sunday but he was delighted to have the opportunity to help the club raise funds.
'It is for a good cause, it is for charity and if I can help the people, I will,' said Fellaini. 'I am happy. I am only keeping it for one night. I don't care whether I have the best hair or not. It's my style. I like it as it is – and Everton supporters like it too, so I am happy.
'Everton do lots of things for the charity, they help a lot of people. If I can help a little bit, I will do that. It doesn't matter which players help – it is just important that we all help. I like it.
'Maybe I will do it again with another colour now that silver is done. Maybe blue next for Everton!'
Wood, the man behind Fellaini's silver locks, is one of the hair and beauty industry's foremost trendsetters and is Wella Professionals Global Creative Director for Colour.
'It was great fun colouring Marouane's hair and it is for such a great cause,' he said. 'I am so pleased we were able to raise this fantastic amount for Everton in the Community.'
Centre of attention: Fellaini's 'fro went down a treat at Everton's end-of-season awards bash Fellaini's fundraising total currently stands at a fantastic £25,395, a figure made possible thanks to generous contributions from fans and local businesses, with every penny raised by the challenge going to Everton in the Community, which is celebrating its 25th year.
To mark the anniversary the charity launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to raise £1million.
