Canvas surrounding a giant screen comes loose due to high winds and referee Martin Atkinson rules that fans cannot enter the stadium on safety grounds Newcastle United's match against Leicester City was delayed by an hour, amid farcical scenes at St James Park, after the club delayed opening the turnstiles because of safety fears over a giant new screen. The club installed the scoreboard above the Leazes End this week, but it has already broken. Canvas surrounding the screen came loose due to high winds in the north east and referee Martin Atkinson ruled that fans could not enter the stadium on safety grounds. A club statement said: "Newcastle United can confirm that there is currently a short delay in opening the turnstiles for today's game whilst an issue with the new screen is being addressed." It was later confirmed that the match would kick off at 4pm.
