Star who earned £30,000-a-week now pays £3 per match to play The former Wales midfielder Simon Davies will pay £3-a-week to play for his local side Solva AFC. He once earned £30,000-a-week representing Spurs in the Premier League - but Simon Davies is now paying £3 per week to play for his new club. Former Wales midfielder Davies also turned out for Everton and Fulham, and scored the opening goal for his country in a 2-1 win over Italy at the Millenium Stadium 12 years ago. At 34, Davies appears to be winding down his career in the sleepy seaside village of Solva in Pembrokeshire where he and his team-mate pay expenses to play. “I’m looking forward to playing a few games with my brother and the friends I started playing with all those years ago,” said Davies in the Mirror. Davies earned 58 caps for his country and scored for Fulham against Atletico Madrid as his side lost 2-1 after extra-time in the 2010 Europa League final, but was left without a club after being released two years ago. “It’s a big signing for the club," said Tracey Cole, club secretary at Solva AFC. “I’ve already told him I’m not paying him - he’s going to have to pay subs like everyone else. “He seems keen and hopefully he’ll be available for a few matches.”

What's that saying? Once you leave Everton? Ha ha - seriously though, good on him.
