No doubt that Blues spell helped Deulofeu Gerard Deulofeu is on the move again, but this time he won’t be back at Everton. Barcelona have allowed the gifted 20-year-old to go back out on loan for a season, this time to Sevilla. And they have made a conscious decision to send the winger to another Spanish club rather than back to Goodison, where Roberto Martinez made it clear he would be more than glad to have him back. In a statement the Camp Nou club said Deulofeu has been sent to Andalusia in “an operation designed to maximise his participation and optimise his progression as a player”. All well and good. Reportedly, Luis Enrique has watched the midfielder in pre-season and decided he is not good enough defensively, despite his 10 months on Merseyside. Any Evertonian could have told him that – and that’s despite the efforts of the Blues coaching staff who did all they good to coax more team responsibility from their temporary prodigy, while also being careful not to nullify his creative spark. If anything, Deulofeu was indulged at times. Everton undoubtedly helped him to develop, and deserve no implied criticism from any quarters for their role in helping his Premier League spell become a qualified success. It will be interesting to watch how he develops this term.
