It is a thrilling prospect to get the new WSL season under way by welcoming one of Europe's best sides, Manchester City, to Goodison Park in front of our supporters on Saturday.
The game will mark the start of a new era, not only for our club, but also the women’s game. It will be the first WSL game to be broadcast live on BBC1 and that in itself is a momentous step.
We are firmly focused on challenging at the very top - and so taking on a team like Manchester City in our first game is something we are all excited about.
Willie’s squad has been transformed over the summer, with nine new faces arriving. It is a signal of our intent - our ambition.
Our new arrivals provide a great blend of youth and experience - and they all bring huge quality. There is no doubt we are much stronger - and much better equipped - to challenge at the top in the WSL.
We are pleased with the players we have been able to bring in. We have done the business we set out to do and having internationals of the calibre of the likes of Hanna Bennison, Kenza Dali and Toni Duggan sends out a real message that 'Everton mean business'.
This season, with the new broadcast agreements, the teams and players will be given a platform like never before. We are excited about the part we are playing in this new era - and we are determined to not only make our current fans proud, but also show the new, bigger audience for the WSL what Everton stands for.
It is an international break for our men’s team - and the last weekend before the end of the school holidays for so many families, so my message to all Evertonians is to please come down to Goodison to support us.
The Grand Old Lady comes to life when our fans are in attendance - and I know Evertonians will make sure it is a day to remember. It is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate to the millions who will be watching on TV what our great Club is all about.
In the past few months, in particular, I’m delighted we have been able to demonstrate the scale of our ambition - and our commitment to challenging for honours at home and in Europe - not just through the transfer activity that has seen us strengthen our squad this summer, but also through the investment in our permanent home for Everton Women at Walton Hall Park.
The pandemic struck just a few weeks after we opened the doors to our new home in 2020. And so being able to bring fans back this season to a stadium which has had further significant investment is so exciting.
It is wonderful to be able to play some of our games at Goodison this season - but Walton Hall Park is the home for Everton Women. We are proud of the facility - and excited for what the future holds.
