Liam Walsh is looking forward to kicking off Everton’s involvement in the Durban Under-19s International Tournament on Friday. The Blues will begin their group campaign when they face Brazilian side Santos. And having had to wait for a few days to get some match action, midfielder Walsh says the team are itching to get started. He told evertonfc.com: “It’s been good. We had a nice start to the trip at the airport where a few of the local were there dancing. That was a good way to arrive here in South Africa. “Santos are a Brazilian side and they are always strong. It will be a good test for us. “We could be up against the next big thing from Brazil but we’re looking good too. In training we are looking solid and we are all ready for the game. “We want to put on a good performance against Santos.” While it is winter in South Africa at present, temperatures more than match the pleasant summer weather back home, but Walsh is confident Everton can handle the challenges the climate will present. He added: “The weather will make things a bit harder. It’s a little bit warmer to what we are used to in England. But we have been working on our fitness all throughout pre-season so we’ll be up to scratch for the game. “It’s very important to try and start with a win. If you can pick up three points in your first game then it gives you confidence. You can take that into the rest of the tournament. “We will play our own way. We will try as hard as we can and see what the outcome is.”
