Siri Worm hopes a victory against Manchester City can round off an enjoyable first season at Everton. The Dutch international joined the Blue Girls from FC Twente last summer and has gone in to establish herself as the first choice left-back, making 20 league and cup appearances so far this season. Worm feels she is showing her best football since making the move to England and is targeting a win away at City on Sunday as the perfect sign-off for the campaign (12.30pm kick-off). “We are prepared and we want to win,” she told evertonfc.com. “We play every game to win. We know it will be hard because they have a very good squad but why can’t we go there and get the points? “I have really enjoyed my first season here. It was a big step for me with the language and the way of playing, so I needed half a year to settle in. Now after a year I can see my improvement. “Holland is more technical and more possession-based but here you have to be great in every aspect of the game. Physically you need to be faster and stronger so you can win your one-v-one duels. The play is faster in possession. It is the whole package. “I have shown my improvement and I think I have proved I have the quality to play every game. The first months I gave myself time to grow into the environment. Now I am showing what I can do.” Worm’s form over the season saw her return to the Holland national team, having missed out prior to the European Championships last summer, a tournament in which the Dutch lifted the trophy after a 4-2 win over Denmark in the final. The defender earned a recall to their training camp in La Manga in January, catching the eye sufficiently to keep her place for the Algarve Cup tournament a month later. Worm would net her first international goal in a 6-2 win over former world champions Japan. The 26-year-old believes her move to Everton has been crucial behind her recent success on the international stage. “I am really thankful to the Club as they helped me with the things I needed to develop,” she added. “The physical side and defensively I have had to improve and the staff really helped me to do that so I am really thankful to them. “It is definitely great to be back with the Netherlands squad. Missing the Euros was a big thing and knocked my confidence. But I focused on Everton in order to just enjoy the game again. That was the first thing - to live as a full professional. If you are working hard and get called up again, then that is even better and you are ready.” Everton FC

Ladies striker Courtney Sweetman-Kirk is confident there is something to build on following her first season at Everton, insisting a more clinical Toffees can step up a level in 2018/19. Everton went down 3-0 to Manchester City in their final WSL 1 fixture on Sunday in what was their first campaign back in the Ladies’ top flight. Despite the result, Sweetman-Kirk was keen to stress that her side more than held their own throughout the match and “sloppy goals” were the reason City were able to seal victory. The forward, who has nine goals this campaign, was unlucky not to equalise at the Academy Stadium after the ball fell to her just outside the box, only for Karen Bardsley to save well, following Jill Scott’s opener in the 22nd minute. “It is a frustrating way to end the season,” Sweetman-Kirk told evertonfc.com. “We started well which means it is hard to take. It was sloppy goals that we have given them. I think they have played well but I don’t think they pulled us apart. “We gave them goals and I think it could have been a red card in the first half. Then it is a different game. We have to forget about that and reflect now, that’s done with. “The season has been up and down. There have been points where we have been really happy but if you look at the league position we aren’t pleased about that." The last time Everton travelled to Manchester, the Blue Girls came away with a frustrating 2-1 defeat in the Continental Cup, after ex-Everton forward Nikita Parris headed a last-gasp winner. Andy Spence's side had equalised with 10 minutes to go through a Simone Magill header, showing the type of fight that was clear to see all season. Unfortunately, Everton couldn’t hold on to what would have been a vital draw, but Sweetman-Kirk noted performances such as that was evidence of the progression the Toffees have made over the campaign. “If you delve deeper into the games, we came and gave Man City a real test earlier in the season," she added. "The Chelsea game (1-0 defeat), too, we were unfortunate to lose in the manner that we did. “In those game we haven’t quite converted the chances that we have created and that is something we will need to look at going into next season. “But next year will be interesting. The movement within the league in terms of players will add a bit of spice to it as well. When we have had a break we will all be raring to come back.” Everton FC

I think they're out of their depth in the WSL1 and finished 2nd from bottom.
They'll need to buck up for next season, as despite being recently promoted on a technicality, they've only won 4 games from 18, and honeymoon period is over.
