Ryan Ledson and Jonjoe Kenny both scored penalties as England defeated Holland in a shootout to win the European Under-17 Championships. Following a 1-1 draw in normal time, Ledson got the Young Lions off to the perfect start by converting his spot-kick, before the Netherlands failed with their first attempt. Taylor Moore and Callum Cooke successfully followed Ledson's example, before another Dutch miss allowed Kenny to put his nation 4-1 ahead. Feyenood's Calvin Verdonk then dragged his effort wide, sealing England's victory. John Peacock's charges had lost 2-0 to Holland in the group stages en route to the final but took the lead in Malta when Chelsea's Dominic Solanke turned in from six-yards out on 25 minutes. Kenny then blocked bravely to deny PSV forward Steven Bergwijn, but the Dutch hit back five minutes before the break when Verdonk's club teammate Jari Schuurman beat England stopper Freddie Woodman. Ledson had a good chance to win the game in the second half, but after latching on to a pass from Isaiah Brown, saw his effort well turned away by Yanick van Osch. The midfielder did finally get the better of the PSV goalkeeper though. And with his teammates - including the cool-as-you-like Kenny - all faultless from the spot, it was Ledson, skipper throughout the tournament, who stepped forward to lift the trophy and spark wild England celebrations.

That Ledson looks a decent player, might break through next year That will make our owners very happy. Heaven forbid if they were to actually show some ambition and buy a player.
