Yeovil Town and Everton go in search of a first FA WSL 1 point of the season this weekend when they meet in a crunch game that could prove pivotal to both campaigns.
The pair have plenty in common, having joined the top division this term and suffering a baptism of fire so far with both losing all four games played.
With eighth-placed Bristol City already four points ahead, wins are urgently needed for both clubs – making this one of the biggest clashes of the weekend.
FORM GUIDE
Yeovil could hardly have asked for a tougher set of matches to start this season but the experience of playing some of the division’s best will only stand them in good stead.
Defending champions Manchester City beat them 4-0 on the opening weekend of the season while Spring Series champions Chelsea won 6-0 last month.
The FA WSL Continental Tyres has not offered any respite either, with both Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur securing wins.
In contrast, Everton have found form in the cup with wins against Doncaster Rovers Belles and Birmingham City giving them some momentum – while they narrowly lost to Man City last time out.
With two of their next three games at home, they will hope to pick up points quickly.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The two teams were locked in an intense promotion fight from FA WSL 2 in 2016, along with Bristol City, and it was the Merseyside club that narrowly missed out.
Yeovil and Everton played two key games – with Everton winning 3-0 in July, but losing the crucial reverse fixture 1-0 in September.
Kelly Aldridge scored the only goal that day for Yeovil and it was a key moment in their successful campaign, although the Toffees were also later awarded a spot in WSL 1.
ONE TO WATCH – Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, Everton
Everton striker Courtney Sweetman-Kirk scored the winner in the Continental Tyres Cup tie against Birmingham last week and is one of the Toffees’ biggest attacking weapons.
Signed from Doncaster Rovers Belles just before the new season, the 2015 FA WSL 2 Players’ Player of the Year had made a huge impact by scoring nine goals for Donny during the FA WSL 2 Spring Series.
And, with Yeovil conceding an average of three goals a game in the league this year, the 26-year-old will be key to the outcome.
WHAT THEY SAID
Yeovil defender Gemma Evans:
"We'll work hard going into it but we definitely won't under-estimate them. We know it's going to be a tough battle and they're a good team.
"We'll put our work in and hopefully it will show on the field with a result.
"We need a win to keep our morale up. The girls are doing really well but we're not getting the results. Everyone is sticking together and we're all positive, but we just need the result to come now.
"We've just got to put the graft in and the scoreboard will reflect it but as I say, we can't under-estimate them."
Everton boss Andy Spence said:
“We can take a great deal of confidence from the start we’ve made. Like we always do, we’re just going to prepare again and be the Everton team that we’re trying to shape and mould.
“We’re really looking like a good side who are going to get better and better. We know Yeovil will be another tough game.
“We’ve obviously played them more than the WSL 1 teams because we faced them in WSL 2 as well.
“They’re a good side and they’re someone who we will give our full attention too this week. I’d be worried if a team wasn’t desperate to pick up points in any game.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re near the top, the middle or the bottom of the league.
“Anyone who has been to watch us in the first five or six games will know that this is a really good, developing side who are on the verge of doing something exciting over the next couple of months.”
