Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has apologised for his "error of judgement" in sending crude emails. Scudamore's former PA leaked the messages to the Sunday Mirror on condition of anonymity, saying that she was shocked by what she had read. "I can tell you he has no respect for women," she said. "I don’t think anyone should have to be exposed to such language and opinions at work. "It was highly offensive. The emails portrayed women in a very derogatory manner. I have worked for very professional organisations and never seen anything like it. That’s why it shocked me." The Mirror's report detailed some of the messages, including advice from Scuadmore to keep a female colleague "off your shaft", while some of his other email exchanges referred to women as "gash" and "broads". One message read: "You will learn over time that female irrationality increases exponentially depending on how many members join your family. That should keep you within the Chinese government’s one child per family enforcement rules. Very clever those Chinese.” In a statement, Scudamore, who has held the £1m-plus-bonuses-a-year job running the Premier League for 15 years, said: "These were private emails exchanged between colleagues and friends of many years. "They were received from and sent to my private and confidential email address, which a temporary employee who was with the organisation for only a matter of weeks should not have accessed and was under no instruction to do so. "Nonetheless I accept the contents are inappropriate and apologise for any offence caused, particularly to the former employee. "It was an error of judgement that I will not make again."
