Jordan Pickford insists Everton are “only moving forward” after picking up a last-gasp point at Brighton on Sunday. Anthony Knockaert thought he had won it for the newly-promoted Seagulls when he lashed the ball past the Blues’ glovesman with eight minutes left to play at the Amex Stadium. But Wayne Rooney kept his cool from the spot to level and the Toffees were only denied victory by a fantastic double save from Albion keeper Mat Ryan, who twice thwarted substitute Kevin Mirallas. So while Everton were frustrated to take only the one point back to Merseyside, Pickford insists the Blues will build on a performance on the south coast that demonstrated their fighting spirit. “To concede quite late on was a kick in the teeth because I thought we dominated the game and had most of the possession,” said the 23-year-old summer signing. “It’s one of those games where they have scored a goal and the fans have got behind them, but as a group of lads we shown our character and got back into it. “Then their keeper has made a couple of great saves right at the end as well to keep it at 1-1. “We just didn’t get the finishing touch, really. We have played well as a group and we are only moving forward. We’ll take positives from it. “We wanted three points but the main thing is we haven’t lost. We can take confidence going into the next game [against Lyon].” Everton FC
