Everton Ladies kicked off their pre-season programme with comfortable victory over Blackburn Rovers. The Blue Girls were in front as early as the third minute. Marthe Munstermann, making her first appearance in an Everton shirt since her summer arrival from Dutch side Twente, rounded off a slick team move when firing low into the corner after Chaney Boys-Hlorkah’s cushioned header. Her compatriot Siri Worm, another debutant, then guided a lofted pass over the top for Claudia Walker to race onto but the striker’s clever lobbed bounced narrowly off target. The second goal soon came however. Gabby George drilled a fine cross-field pass for marauding full-back Dan Turner, and she powered a drive into the net from 18 yards. Seconds after the interval, Everton were awarded a penalty as Walker was brought down just inside the box. The striker dusted herself down to take it herself but saw her spot-kick well saved by former Toffee Dan Hill. Walker would not be denied however. In quick succession, she struck the bar with a powerful effort, then guided a low shot inches wide after a sublime pass from Georgia Brougham dissected the Blackburn rearguard. And Walker would be rewarded for her perseverance when she fired home first time Jodie Brett’s pinpoint pass. There was still time for Walker to almost grab a fourth but the Blue Girls were home and dry. A win, clean sheet and valuable minutes under their belts, the Toffees head south to play Watford next.
