A ninth place finish and a Copa del Rey final appearance was not a bad accomplishment for La Liga side Alaves. After all the loss in the Copa del Rey came at the hands of Barcelona. Their success can be attributed to one man: Mauricio Pellegrino. The young manager resigned at the end of May seeking a new adventure. One option is London, at Crystal Palace. Talks have been underway between the club and the Argentine. Pellegrino has already made a name for himself being Rafa Benitez's assistant at Liverpool then Inter, and with coaching stints at Valencia, Estudiantes, Independiente and Alaves. He now believes himself to be ready for the Premier League. It's a return to the past but not at Merseyside, rather as the Sam Allardyce's successor with the Eagles.

Palace chiefs have spoken to Sean Dyche, Mauricio Pellegrino and Roger Schmidt this week about the vacant managerial role.
