Everton have wished Calum Dyson luck for the future after he was forced into early retirement.
Former Everton striker Dyson recently announced his retirement on Twitter. In a note, he said: “Unfortunately after 2 years of trying to recover from a serious ankle injury I have made the decision to retire from professional football. Being told to retire from your dream has been hard to take but grateful to have achieved that dream!”
The 23-year-old continued by thanking both Everton and Plymouth Argyle for their help in the past. Dyson will now be preparing for a new venture in his life. Dyson came through the system at Everton after joining the club as a schoolboy. The local lad spent 16 years with the Toffees, rising through the academy ranks but he never made his senior debut.
After loan spells with Stockport County, Chester and Grimsby Town, Dyson left Everton permanently. The young striker joined Plymouth in 2018 and has since spent time on loan at Stevenage. But he has only managed to rack up two appearances since leaving Everton (both for Plymouth and none in the league). This chronic ankle injury eventually forced Dyson to retire.
Dyson’s former club Everton sent him a message of support on Twitter. The club’s official account said: “Good luck with your next chapter, Calum! A lot to be proud of from your 16 years with us as a player with @evertonacademy and #EFCU23. You’ll always have our full support.”
