Brougham Welcomes Blues Team SpiritEverton Ladies defender Georgia Brougham has been pleased to see a strong team spirit already established within the squad ahead of the new season. The Blue Girls are back in pre-season training with an FA Cup third round tie at Brighouse Town on the horizon on 5 February. The departure of popular midfielder Millie Turner to WSL 1 side Bristol City was particularly disappointing for fellow Mancunian Brougham. Add the loss of the likes of Ellie Stewart, Rosella Ayane and Jenna Dear after the conclusion of their contracts and it’s a smaller group that reported back at Finch Farm. But the defender insists it’s a harmonious one too. “All the girls were sad to see Millie leave,” said Brougham. “But it now leaves an opening for someone else in the squad. We’ve had a couple of other players leave at the end of their contracts and so it is a smaller group at the moment. But is a tight one and everyone feels together. “The spirit seems high and that’s important for us. There were times last season where that wasn’t the case and it let us down. But we know this season we need to put it right, and everyone has come back with a really positive vibe.” The Toffees could certainly use that positivity at the moment, with a rigorous pre-season schedule well underway. However, given she missed the vital run-in last season through injury, Brougham is happy to be putting in the work, however tough it may be. “Pre-season is never nice on the body but everyone has come back fresh and ready to work hard so its been great so far,” she added. “We’ve had two weeks of testing and we’re all glad that’s out the way – its things like the yoyo test and assessing our fitness levels. “But now it’s all about the running! We have started working with the ball as well but its mainly conditioning work. Its all designed to help get our fitness levels up. “I’m back to full health in terms of my ankle feels fine. But pre-season is allowing me to return to the level that I need to play football, like it is with everyone. I’m training as normal so hopefully the injury has healed well. Part of the testing is making sure old injuries are recovering well anyway so I’m in safe hands.” Everton FC Want to reply to articles as a guest?Loads more Everton News HEREREGISTER WITH LOVE EVERTON FORUM HERE Checkout our site map HERE
