FIFA living in their own World - by Barry HorneThe World Cup being expanded wasn't a great surprise. The idea has been floating around for a while. While the 'new' FIFA promised to be transparent and restore the name of FIFA, how much public consultation was there over this plan? None. How much were the clubs involved? Not very. And it doesn't seem like national associations were overly involved. Many of those in positions of power at FIFA were in position under Blatter. What's changed? If you have anything in life which works well and is simple and straightforward and has a natural symmetry to it, you need a very good excuse or reason to change it. Other than making more money for FIFA, I don't think there are any reasons to change the World Cup. The new format doesn't improve it. The extra teams that qualify will be middle-ranking teams. It's just a very unnatural format. Liv Echo
