Left-back Thierry Small wrote his name into the Everton history books when he made his senior Everton debut against Sheffield Wednesday on 24 January 2021, becoming the Club’s youngest ever player.

Aged 16 years and 176 days, he was substituted on with five minutes remaining of the Blues’ 3-0 FA Cup fourth-round victory at Goodison Park. He was 15 days younger than the previous record-holder, Jose Baxter.

Solihull-born Small joined Everton Academy aged 11 having previously been at West Bromwich Albion. He has been capped by England at Under-15 level and is also eligible to play for Jamaica, Panama and Saint Kitts.

His historic maiden First-Team appearance came just over three months after his first outing for Everton Under-23s, having made his debut for David Unsworth’s side in a 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on 19 October 2020.

Small scored his first goal for the Under-23s in a 2-1 win over West Ham United on 14 December 2020 – and he also netted for Unsworth’s team less than 24 hours after his First-Team bow, hammering home the young Blues’ opener in a 4-2 victory at Leicester City.

The left-back, who can also operate as a central defender and left-winger, views his main strengths as going one on one against opponents as well as his crossing. He looks up to Cristiano Ronaldo for his determination to be the best, as well as legendary Italian defender Paulo Maldini and current Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.

Small comes from a sporting family. His uncle Bryan Small played for Aston Villa and his uncle Trevor Small was a professional boxer.

Thierry left Everton in the summer of 2021 after deciding not to sign a contract with the club. On 24th August, he signed a 3 year professional contract with Southampton.
