At Everton between 2022 - 2024

On 9th August 2022, Everton announced the siging of Denmark international defender Katrine Veje, on a 2 year contract.

A Barclays Women’s Super League title-winner with Arsenal, Veje arrives boasting an impressive trophy haul in her career so far, within Swedish, Danish, North American and English top-flight leagues.

An experienced left-back, who can also play wing-back and midfield, Veje has 140 caps for Denmark.

“I’m so happy to be at Everton,” said Veje.

“It’s a big club and it feels good to be back in the league. I always had a dream to come back to the league – Everton are such a big club as well – so it’s a dream come true.”

Veje joined Everton off the back of her fourth European Championship in 2022, where she represented Denmark alongside fellow Everton Women players Rikke Sevecke and the Holmgaard twins.

She explained how fellow defender Sevecke spoke highly of the Club, while the appeal of working with fellow Norwegian manager Brian Sorensen convinced her to move to Merseyside.

“For me, I need to feel comfortable in my environment,” Veje explained.

“With Brian as manager – and knowing some of the Danish and Swedish girls here – it made the decision to sign for Everton even easier. I spoke with Ricky about the league, the Club and the team. There had been a lot of thoughts before signing and I just felt Everton was the right move for me."

“Brian has won a lot of titles in Denmark and did well in the Champions League as well so that was so important for me that he really wanted me here. My dream is to take this team to one of the top five places in this league. I feel we have the players for that to be possible, a lot of internationals in the squad and a lot of good English players as well."

“That’s something I want to fight for and help the team achieve.”

Veje began her career in Denmark with Odense BK before successful spells at Malmo and Brondby, sandwiched by a stint in the US with Seattle Reign.

The defender played in France for Montpellier in 2017/18, moving to Arsenal the following season, ahead of a return to Sweden with FC Rosengard in 2020.

Everton manager Sorensen said: “Katrine is a world-class player, which she has shown over the past 10 years playing for some of the biggest clubs in Europe. For the national team, she has been one of the most consistent players throughout the past decade."

“I have seen her qualities when she has played against the teams I have managed, and I have watched her with the national team for many years. Katrine is an excellent player on every level, and she brings a lot of quality to our squad.”

On Friday 19th July 2024, Everton announced that Veje has left the Club following the expiry of her contract.
