Defender Sylvain Distin has signed a one-year contract extension. The new deal will keep the 36-year-old at Goodison Park until the summer of 2015. An August 2009 arrival from Portsmouth, the French defender has been a near ever-present during his four-and-a-half seasons on Merseyside, racking up 177 first-team appearances. Of those, 22 have come during the 2013/14 campaign, while last February he became the first foreign outfield player to reach 400 Premier League outings. Distin's contract had been due to expire in June. He becomes the second player this week to pen a new Everton deal after Leighton Baines signed a long-term agreement on Monday.
